Vastu Tips
The useful half of Vastu Tips: proportion, light, storage and the three things worth copying.

Vastu Tips, in plain specification
Written for the decision, not for the mood board.
We write about Vastu tips the way we brief a project: what problem is being solved, what it costs to solve it properly, and what the family has to maintain afterwards.
Vastu Tips is easy to collect and hard to use. Every published room hides four decisions about services, storage, light and money that the photograph does not show. This page tries to make those decisions explicit, so what you save is usable rather than aspirational.
Where Vastu tips interacts with services — a duct, a drain, a conduit, an AC route — the service wins. Every attractive detail that ignored a service has been rebuilt at some point, usually at the client’s cost, which is why we resolve them together on one drawing.

How to choose vastu tips
Six checks that prevent the failures we are most often called to fix.
- Read for the decisions rather than the pictures. Every image in an interiors feature hides four decisions about services, storage and light.
- Note which ideas depend on ceiling height, daylight or room dimension, because those are the ones that will not transfer to your home.
- Separate what is fixed from what is finish. Layout, services and structure are expensive to change; colour and hardware are not.
- Check whether an idea suits Indian conditions — humidity, dust, hard water and daily cooking defeat many imported ideas.
- Collect examples of what you dislike as carefully as what you like. It is faster to design against a clear no.
- Bring dimensions to any conversation. Ideas become plans only when they meet a floor plan.
Bangalore
Vastu Tips in Bangalore
What the city's climate, water, housing stock and society rules mean for this specification.
Most of our work is in Bangalore, and the city sets a few conditions worth knowing before specifying Vastu tips. The climate is the kindest in India to timber and joinery — no extreme dry heat, no coastal salt — but the monsoon runs long, and humidity between June and October is what tests every edge, seal and ventilation gap in a home.
Traffic decides delivery windows more than distance does. Material moving to Whitefield, Sarjapur or Electronic City is scheduled outside peak hours, and large items are checked against the lift and stair turn before the order rather than on delivery day.
Dust along the metro and ORR construction corridors is a real specification input. Sealed joinery, washable finishes and casement or sliding windows with good seals pay for themselves in these pockets in the first year.
Balcony enclosure rules vary sharply between societies, and a few refuse them entirely. Anything involving a balcony gets checked against the society's own rules before design, not after — including in Indiranagar and Koramangala, where older buildings often have their own restrictions.
Our Bangalore projects run with a named project manager and a written weekly site report, which is what keeps a fit-out on programme in a city with restricted working hours.
Sizing
Vastu Tips by home size
The table below maps Vastu tips onto home size, because most ideas need adapting rather than copying when the floor plan changes.
| Home size | Typical scope | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| 1 BHK | Works with adaptation | Compact planning, one clear gesture |
| 2 BHK | Works as published | Standard scope, most common brief |
| 3 BHK | Works as published | Full scope with storage planned in litres |
| 4 BHK | Scales up well | Extended scope, bespoke elements |
| 4+ BHK / Villa | Scales up well | Villa scale, bespoke throughout |
Cost
What moves the price of vastu tips
We quote line by line rather than per square foot, because these are the items that actually differ between two estimates.
- The gap between an inspiration image and a buildable version is usually joinery, lighting and services.
- Bespoke elements, which are what make published rooms look considered.
- Ceiling and lighting work, which are invisible in a photograph and expensive in a quote.
- Furniture and styling, routinely left out of budgets.
- Civil changes needed to achieve an open plan or a level threshold.
Process
How the work runs
Five stages, with the decisions each one locks.
We measure the space ourselves rather than working from the builder's drawing, note the services, water quality, daylight and society rules, and write down how the room is actually used. Vastu Tips is specified against that survey, not against a catalogue.
Plans, elevations and details, with the specification written as grades and dimensions. You approve an elevation, not a render — this is the stage where changes cost nothing.
Material, finish, hardware and services are locked, and the estimate becomes a line-by-line document. We tell you exactly what this date locks and what can still change afterwards.
Factory production runs to the approved drawing while site work is prepared. Material is checked against the approved sample on arrival, in daylight, and stored correctly until the programme calls for it.
Installation, testing, snagging and a documentation file with drawings, warranties, decor codes and hardware models. A first-year service visit is scheduled at handover.
Living with it
Maintaining vastu tips
The honest routine, and the mistakes that cost the most to undo.
Care and maintenance
- Keep a single folder of references with notes on why each one is saved — the reason matters more than the image.
- Revisit saved ideas after the floor plan is fixed; half of them stop making sense.
- Photograph rooms you like in person, in the light you would live with.
- Write down the three things the project must achieve, and check every decision against them.
What goes wrong
- Copying an image without adapting for room size, light and use.
- Choosing a palette from a screen rather than from samples in the room.
- Falling for a detail that requires maintenance nobody in the house will do.
- Leaving storage out of an aesthetic plan and adding it later as furniture.
Detailing
Vastu Tips detailing notes
The small decisions that separate built work from assembled work.
The most useful thing to take from any interiors feature is the proportion, not the product.
Light does more of the work in these images than any material does; note where it comes from before noting what it lands on.
Where a room looks calm, count the materials. It will usually be three.
If an idea depends on a 3.2m ceiling and yours is 2.9m, adapt the proportion rather than copying the detail.
Questions
Vastu Tips — answered
Where should I start with Vastu Tips?
With the floor plan and a list of how each room is actually used. Ideas are easy to gather and only become useful once they meet real dimensions and a real routine.
How do I adapt an idea to a smaller home?
Keep the proportion and drop the count. One generous element in a small room reads better than three scaled-down ones.
What works in Indian homes specifically?
Materials that tolerate humidity and dust, ventilation designed rather than assumed, hard-water-tolerant fittings, and storage planned for how Indian households actually cook and entertain.
How much should I budget?
It depends far more on joinery quantity and finish level than on style. Two rooms with the same look can differ by a wide margin depending on how much is built in.
Should I hire a designer for one room?
For a single room, sometimes not. For anything involving services, ceilings, plumbing or a full home, the coordination is worth more than the design.
What is the most common mistake?
Fixing the look before fixing the use. Rooms designed around how they photograph rarely survive contact with a family's actual evening.
Do you work on vastu tips projects across Bangalore?
Yes — Bangalore is where most of our projects are, from apartments along Sarjapur Road, Whitefield and Hebbal to independent homes in Jayanagar, Indiranagar and Malleshwaram. We survey the space ourselves, work within the society's access and working-hour rules, and hand over with a documentation file. There is a dedicated page for our work in the city if you want the full picture.
Does Bangalore's climate or water affect this choice?
The climate helps and the water does not. Mild year-round temperatures are kinder to timber and joinery than almost any other Indian city, so craft detailing lasts. Hard borewell water in the eastern and northern corridors is the real constraint — it scales glass, chrome and stone, and it changes what we specify and what maintenance we ask the family to commit to.
