Half of what circulates as decor and inspiration does not survive an Indian summer, a monsoon or a household that cooks daily. The half that does is worth knowing well, and it is what we build.
We write about decor and inspiration the way we brief a project: what problem is being solved, what it costs to solve it properly, and what the family has to maintain afterwards.
In our work this sits alongside the rest of the home rather than as an isolated decision. Decor and Inspiration touches the electrical layout, the ceiling, the flooring build-up and often the civil work, so it is fixed early in the drawing set and reviewed against every other trade before production starts.

How to choose decor and inspiration
Six checks that prevent the failures we are most often called to fix.
- Read for the decisions rather than the pictures. Every image in an interiors feature hides four decisions about services, storage and light.
- Note which ideas depend on ceiling height, daylight or room dimension, because those are the ones that will not transfer to your home.
- Separate what is fixed from what is finish. Layout, services and structure are expensive to change; colour and hardware are not.
- Check whether an idea suits Indian conditions — humidity, dust, hard water and daily cooking defeat many imported ideas.
- Collect examples of what you dislike as carefully as what you like. It is faster to design against a clear no.
- Bring dimensions to any conversation. Ideas become plans only when they meet a floor plan.
Bangalore
Decor and Inspiration in Bangalore
What the city's climate, water, housing stock and society rules mean for this specification.
The Bangalore housing stock splits cleanly, and decor and inspiration is specified differently for each half. New towers along the outer ring have regular layouts, compact utility areas and generous ceiling height; the older independent homes in the south and west have height, thicker walls and almost no two dimensions the same.
Hard borewell water in Whitefield, Sarjapur Road, Hebbal and Yelahanka leaves scale on glass, chrome and stone within months. Where the supply is hard we specify surfaces and fittings that tolerate it, and we tell the family the honest maintenance routine rather than leaving them to discover it.
Most societies here allow work between roughly 9am and 6pm, restrict Sundays, require a service-lift booking and hold a debris deposit. That schedule is written into the programme at the start, because a plan that assumes twelve working hours a day will slip in its first week.
Traffic decides delivery windows more than distance does. Material moving to Whitefield, Sarjapur or Electronic City is scheduled outside peak hours, and large items are checked against the lift and stair turn before the order rather than on delivery day.

Cost
What moves the price of decor and inspiration
We quote line by line rather than per square foot, because these are the items that actually differ between two estimates.
- The gap between an inspiration image and a buildable version is usually joinery, lighting and services.
- Bespoke elements, which are what make published rooms look considered.
- Ceiling and lighting work, which are invisible in a photograph and expensive in a quote.
- Furniture and styling, routinely left out of budgets.
- Civil changes needed to achieve an open plan or a level threshold.
Process
How the work runs
Five stages, with the decisions each one locks.
We measure the space ourselves rather than working from the builder's drawing, note the services, water quality, daylight and society rules, and write down how the room is actually used. Decor and Inspiration is specified against that survey, not against a catalogue.
Plans, elevations and details, with the specification written as grades and dimensions. You approve an elevation, not a render — this is the stage where changes cost nothing.
Material, finish, hardware and services are locked, and the estimate becomes a line-by-line document. We tell you exactly what this date locks and what can still change afterwards.
Factory production runs to the approved drawing while site work is prepared. Material is checked against the approved sample on arrival, in daylight, and stored correctly until the programme calls for it.
Installation, testing, snagging and a documentation file with drawings, warranties, decor codes and hardware models. A first-year service visit is scheduled at handover.

Care and maintenance
- Keep a single folder of references with notes on why each one is saved — the reason matters more than the image.
- Revisit saved ideas after the floor plan is fixed; half of them stop making sense.
- Photograph rooms you like in person, in the light you would live with.
- Write down the three things the project must achieve, and check every decision against them.
What goes wrong
- Copying an image without adapting for room size, light and use.
- Choosing a palette from a screen rather than from samples in the room.
- Falling for a detail that requires maintenance nobody in the house will do.
- Leaving storage out of an aesthetic plan and adding it later as furniture.
Detailing

The most useful thing to take from any interiors feature is the proportion, not the product.
Light does more of the work in these images than any material does; note where it comes from before noting what it lands on.
Where a room looks calm, count the materials. It will usually be three.
If an idea depends on a 3.2m ceiling and yours is 2.9m, adapt the proportion rather than copying the detail.

For a single room, sometimes not. For anything involving services, ceilings, plumbing or a full home, the coordination is worth more than the design.
What is the most common mistake?
Fixing the look before fixing the use. Rooms designed around how they photograph rarely survive contact with a family's actual evening.

Does Bangalore's climate or water affect this choice?
The climate helps and the water does not. Mild year-round temperatures are kinder to timber and joinery than almost any other Indian city, so craft detailing lasts. Hard borewell water in the eastern and northern corridors is the real constraint — it scales glass, chrome and stone, and it changes what we specify and what maintenance we ask the family to commit to.
