Rug Sizing, Settled

The single most commonly undersized purchase in an Indian living room.

Front legs on, at minimum

In a living room, every seat should have at least its front legs on the rug. A rug floating between the furniture fragments the floor and shrinks the seating group.

Leave 200-300mm of floor at the perimeter

A rug should read as an island within the room, not as wall-to-wall carpet that stopped short. That border of visible floor is what makes it look intentional.

Under a dining table, add 600mm on every side

Chairs must stay on the rug when pulled out. A rug that catches the back legs is a daily irritation and wears unevenly.

In a bedroom, run it under the bed

Start it about a third of the way down the bed and let it extend 500-600mm past each side, so you step onto it getting out of bed.

Pile height is a maintenance decision

Low pile in dining and high-traffic zones, higher pile in bedrooms. Long pile under a dining table collects everything and cleans badly.
