Beds, in plain specification
Written for the decision, not for the mood board.
Every beds we build starts from how the room is used at its busiest hour. Circulation, reach and storage volume come first; elevations come second. It is a slower way to start and it removes most of the changes that would otherwise appear halfway through production.
A good beds is invisible in use — everything within reach, nothing in the way, no door fouling another. Achieving that is a matter of dimensions and hardware rather than of style, which is why the specification table below matters more than the photographs.
Where beds interacts with services — a duct, a drain, a conduit, an AC route — the service wins. Every attractive detail that ignored a service has been rebuilt at some point, usually at the client’s cost, which is why we resolve them together on one drawing.

Before you commit
How to choose beds
Six checks that prevent the failures we are most often called to fix.
- Sit on it for ten minutes, not ten seconds. Seat depth and back angle decide comfort, and neither is visible in a photograph.
- Ask what the frame is. Kiln-dried hardwood holds its geometry in Indian humidity; particle-board frames do not, whatever the upholstery costs.
- Check the foam density, not the softness. A low-density foam feels identical in the showroom and collapses in eighteen months.
- Measure the route into the room — lift, stair turn, door width — before ordering anything large. It is the most common reason a piece goes back.
- For leather, ask whether it is full-grain, top-grain or bonded. The three age in completely different directions.
- Confirm whether covers are removable. In a house with children or pets, that single feature decides the piece's life.

Beds in Bangalore
What the city's climate, water, housing stock and society rules mean for this specification.
Bangalore is an unusually easy city to build interiors in and an unusually easy one to get wrong for a single reason: water. Borewell supply across the eastern and northern corridors is hard, and that hardness decides how beds looks after two years far more than the material grade does.
Most societies here allow work between roughly 9am and 6pm, restrict Sundays, require a service-lift booking and hold a debris deposit. That schedule is written into the programme at the start, because a plan that assumes twelve working hours a day will slip in its first week.
Traffic decides delivery windows more than distance does. Material moving to Whitefield, Sarjapur or Electronic City is scheduled outside peak hours, and large items are checked against the lift and stair turn before the order rather than on delivery day.
Dust along the metro and ORR construction corridors is a real specification input. Sealed joinery, washable finishes and casement or sliding windows with good seals pay for themselves in these pockets in the first year.

Cost
What moves the price of beds
We quote line by line rather than per square foot, because these are the items that actually differ between two estimates.
- Frame construction and whether the joints are engineered or bolted.
- Fill quality and the suspension system, which are invisible and decide the life.
- Fabric grade — the same sofa in three fabrics can span a wide price range.
- Bespoke sizing, which is worth paying for in an odd-shaped room and wasted in a standard one.
- Lead time: air-freighted or expedited pieces cost noticeably more.
Process
How the work runs
Five stages, with the decisions each one locks.
We measure the space ourselves rather than working from the builder's drawing, note the services, water quality, daylight and society rules, and write down how the room is actually used. Beds is specified against that survey, not against a catalogue.
Plans, elevations and details, with the specification written as grades and dimensions. You approve an elevation, not a render — this is the stage where changes cost nothing.
Material, finish, hardware and services are locked, and the estimate becomes a line-by-line document. We tell you exactly what this date locks and what can still change afterwards.
Factory production runs to the approved drawing while site work is prepared. Material is checked against the approved sample on arrival, in daylight, and stored correctly until the programme calls for it.
Installation, testing, snagging and a documentation file with drawings, warranties, decor codes and hardware models. A first-year service visit is scheduled at handover.

Care and maintenance
- Rotate and plump loose cushions weekly. Nearly all uneven wear in a sofa comes from one favourite seat.
- Keep upholstery out of direct sun; it fades far faster than the frame ages.
- Vacuum upholstery monthly with a brush head. Dust in the weave is what cuts fibres over time.
- Feed leather twice a year with the manufacturer's conditioner — Indian summers dry it faster than European guidance assumes.
What goes wrong
- Buying to the showroom's scale rather than the room's. Showrooms are enormous and everything looks smaller in them.
- Ordering a fixed-cover sofa for a family with young children.
- Ignoring the lift and stair dimensions until delivery day.
- Choosing a low seat height for a household with elderly members.
Detailing
Beds detailing notes
The small decisions that separate built work from assembled work.
Leave 750mm of circulation behind a dining chair pulled out, and 400mm between a sofa and a coffee table. Rooms fail on these two numbers more than on style.
A sofa floated off the wall usually makes a room look larger, not smaller, because it lets the floor read as continuous behind it.
Match the seat height to the flooring build-up. A 20mm rug plus a 420mm seat is a different chair to sit in.
Specify the arm width honestly: a 200mm arm on a three-seater removes a whole seat of usable width.

Can Beds be made to a custom size?
Yes. Bespoke sizing is the main reason to build rather than buy, and it costs less than most people expect — usually 10 to 20% over a standard size in the same specification.
How long is the lead time?
Six to twelve weeks depending on the frame, fabric and finish. Imported fabric is usually the long pole, so it is chosen first.
What is the right fabric for a family home?
A performance weave with a removable cover. It resists staining, cleans without specialist help, and can be replaced in five years without replacing the piece.
Will it fit through my door?
We check the lift, stair turn and door widths before confirming any large piece, and design knock-down frames where the route is tight. This check happens before the order, not at delivery.
How should beds be maintained?
Weekly rotation of cushions, monthly vacuuming with a brush head, no direct sun, and conditioning for leather twice a year.
Is there a warranty?
Frames and suspension carry a multi-year warranty; upholstery and finishes are warranted against manufacturing defects rather than wear.

Does Bangalore's climate or water affect this choice?
The climate helps and the water does not. Mild year-round temperatures are kinder to timber and joinery than almost any other Indian city, so craft detailing lasts. Hard borewell water in the eastern and northern corridors is the real constraint — it scales glass, chrome and stone, and it changes what we specify and what maintenance we ask the family to commit to.
