Planning note

Guest Bedroom at 1 bhk scale

A 1 bhk changes what a guest bedroom can carry more than most people expect: fewer run-length options, tighter door swings, and less room for a freestanding piece alongside the built joinery. Shared with the study reflects that discipline rather than a generic catalogue size.

Households at this configuration consistently under-plan storage volume for a guest bedroom, then add freestanding furniture later that the original layout never accounted for.

Keep one continuous flooring plane through connected spaces; changing floor material at a doorway makes both rooms feel smaller.

Shadow gaps at skirting and ceiling let a room read as planes rather than as boxes, and they hide the tolerances of an Indian building.

A room needs one generous gesture — a long sofa, a full-height joinery run, a single large artwork — and then quiet around it.

Plan for the fan. Ceiling fans are a fact of Indian life and a beautiful ceiling with an afterthought fan is a compromise seen every day.

Identify the one focal wall and commit to it. Rooms with three feature walls read as noise.

What moves the estimate at this size

  • Joinery quantity, measured in running feet, which is the largest single line in most rooms.
  • Finish level on the joinery faces.
  • Ceiling and lighting complexity.
  • Flooring, especially where the existing floor comes up.
  • Furniture and soft furnishings, which are frequently left out of the initial budget entirely.

Questions

Guest Bedroom questions

Is a wall bed worth the cost?

In a room under about 10×10 feet that has to work as an office daily, yes. In a room used as a bedroom more than a few weeks a year, a normal bed with under-bed storage is better value.

What mattress suits a guest room?

Medium-firm. It suits the widest range of bodies and sleeping positions, which matters when you cannot ask a guest their preference.

How much wardrobe space does a guest need?

One hanging rail of about 900mm and two drawers, kept genuinely empty. A wardrobe full of your own storage is the most common guest-room failure.

Should a guest room have an attached bathroom?

It transforms the experience if the plan allows it. Where it does not, put a mirror and a small vanity in the room so guests are not queuing for the shared bathroom.
